Below, you’ll see a number of documents showcasing my graphic design abilities. As Editor in Chief, it was my sole responsibility for two years (until I created the position of and trained a graphic design editor) to produce each edition of the Tripod every single week. On average, I spent 8-12 hours formatting each 12 or 16-page edition, doing this 8-10 times each semester. I standardized the layout, established formatting rules, created baseline documents still used today, created and incorporated innovative designs, and passed along my (self-taught) knowledge to multiple editors. And yes, these were all made using my laptop — no mouse (and add carpal tunnel).
National Championship spread — Tripod 2025
In March 2025, Trinity’s men’s basketball team won the DIII national championship, and I ensured the magnitude of their win was properly represented with a full spread on the front and back pages.
Student Activism Edition — Tripod 2024
This special edition was born from an increase of student activism at Trinity, and an apparent lack of community knowledge on Trinity’s rich organizing history. I executed the entirety of the design process, which included reimagining various spreads like those below. I also integrated archival elements from past Tripods into this edition commemorating important stories from the past.
Liepod (satire edition) — Tripod 2024
Every year, the Tripod published a satirical paper around April 1. In past years, the “Liepod” was only four pages (the rest of the edition being normal); when I became EIC, I decided we would take on an entire 12 pages of satire sourced from our entire staff, incorporating new design elements like you see below. I have to admit, every page of this edition still makes me laugh (except for the four pages of “normal” news in there).
Election edition — Tripod 2024
During my time as EIC, the Tripod brought back “Along the Long Walk,” where an editor and photographer approached students asking the same question. The question of how to format these responses stumped me for a while; I ended up looking back at old Tripod ATLWs and decided to slightly tweak those layouts to create what you see below. The formatting I created from scratch on InDesign is still used for ATLW formatting today!
Bicentennial edition — Tripod 2023
In 2023, Trinity College turned 200 years old, and we decided to work with the administration and archivists to create an issue commemorating Trinity’s rich history. This was one of the most challenging designs I have ever come across — not only were we forced to re-type most stories (the old documents didn’t translate well in a PDF reader), but somehow fit dozens of stories and snippets into our typical 16-page edition. I remember spending hours on the Opinion spread (below), figuring out how to legibly display these stories along with screen grabs from the original texts. Ultimately our Bicentennial edition was a huge success across campus and amongst students, professors, staff, alumni, parents and administration.
